Law denies Y purchase

The Spokesman-Review

I am a bearer of bad news against a worthy endeavor, and amending County Resolution 2008-0771 will not provide the solution.

The amendment is a worthless attempt to justify purchasing 0.8 of an acre of developed land (covered with a building and parking), utilizing Conservation Futures tax funds. At present this is legally impossible. RCW 84.34.010 and 84.34.200 provide instructions for use of the tax funds. Developed land, no can do.

If the YMCA property is purchased, the Spokane County commissioners would violate this RCW (reportable to the attorney general), plus could be grounds for recall.

RCW 84.34 does have very strict guidelines but it is a very good land-use legislative declaration. RCW 84.34 is Internet available. Bring it up and read it.
