Baby Osbourne’s a rocker socker

It’s a like-father, like-daughter situation in the Osbourne family.

Anyone who followed “The Osbournes,” an Emmy-winning reality show that MTV broadcast in 2002-2005, knows the crew.

There’s Ozzy Osbourne, 60, the self-proclaimed Prince of Darkness and former lead singer of the British heavy-metal band Black Sabbath. There’s Sharon Osbourne, 56, Ozzy’s wife and business manager.

Their children: aspiring singer/actress Kelly Osbourne, 24, and Jack Osbourne, 23.

It’s Kelly who is the news here, having been just released from jail after being charged with assault for allegedly slapping gossip columnist Zoe Griffin in a London nightclub last August.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Osbourne hit Griffin after the columnist wrote that Osbourne’s boyfriend, Luke Worrall, who is a very pretty model, “is so I.Q.-challenged he had to ask someone to explain how earthquakes are caused.”

At least he didn’t, uh, crash

You have to wonder whether Matt Dillon is auditioning for “Super Troopers 2.” The actor was cited on Dec. 30 for speeding on a Vermont interstate highway. Police clocked the 44-year-old star of “Crash” and dozens of other film, doing 106 mph in a 65 mph zone.

On Wednesday, Dillon’s lawyer entered a plea of not guilty on the actor’s behalf.

Concert was for the birds

So, you might have asked yourself, why was James Taylor wearing a hat and sunglasses during his performance Sunday at the preinauguration ceremonies for President Barack Obama. The official story is that Taylor, who was rushed to a hospital where he received 50 stitches, “fell during rehearsal and cut his forehead on a guitar.”

The unofficial story, according to the New York Post, is even more bizarre: It involves a wooden parrot in his hotel room.

It was an Oscar performance

Harvey Weinstein might be a movie mogul, but at home he just follows instructions. That, at least, is what Weinstein’s wife, Georgina Chapman, told InStyle magazine regarding Weinstein’s gift-buying traits.

“I normally tell my husband what to buy me – it’s less pressure,” Chapman said. “He recently got me a Lucian Freud painting that I truly love. It was a little calculated, but I did act surprised.”

Freebie time for Bono’s bunch

U2 fans are enjoying the musical equivalent of a free lunch as the Irish rock band previews a single, “Get Your Boots On,” for free on its Web site, www.u2.com.

The Dublin-bred band – Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. – typically gives hometown fans a free listen. Now it’s letting the whole world hear the song, one of 11 on the new album, “No Line on the Horizon,” which will be released March 3 worldwide.
