Celebrate ice fishing in Molson

Judy Fulkerson Awayfinder Correspondent
The fifth annual Ice Fishing Festival will be held Saturday, Feb. 14 at Sidley Lake near Molson, Wash. Sponsored by the Oroville Chamber of Commerce, the event features a fishing tournament plus a pancake breakfast, exhibits, dog sled demonstrations and an awards dinner. Fishing for adults and kids begins at 8 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. Participants register on-site prior to the competition. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children. Prizes are awarded in several categories including biggest fish and largest combined weight of two fish. Two years ago, there were 170 adults and 23 kids registered. Spectators and non-fishing visitors may enjoy arts and crafts and food in the nearby Molson Grange. One of the organizers of the Ice Fishing Festival, Robin Stice of Eden Valley Guest Ranch, said the event represents “good, clean family fun in the outdoors.” President’s Day Weekend was chosen as the time for the event because by then, “the bitter cold is over and we usually have nice sunny days with temperatures in the teens.” She advises dressing warmly, and adds visitors are welcome to bring dogs as long as pets remain leashed.
