UW’s Taylor leads Amateur Public Links

Nick Taylor of the University of Washington shot a 5-under 66 Monday to lead the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla., after the first round, and Hank Frame of Spokane finished the day three strokes back.

Taylor shot a 4-under 31 on the second nine at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. Last week Taylor, the low amateur at the U.S. Open, won the Sahalee Players Championship, an amateur event in Sammammish, Wash.

Frame, a 2009 graduate of University High, fired a 69, good for a tie for fourth place.

The second round of stroke play will be completed today. The low 64 scorers will advance to the match play portion of the event, which begins Wednesday and concludes Saturday.
