Tom Brokaw will film series on recession

Scott Collins Los Angeles Times

Tom Brokaw is hitting the road in search of Americans affected by the recession.

In a promotional tie-in with USA Networks, the NBC newsman will film a series of documentaries at various towns along U.S. Route 50, a fabled highway that spans the nation from Maryland to California.

Political reporters often refer to the highway that stretches from Maryland to California as the spine of the country because of the political and ethnic diversity represented along its route, Brokaw said.

The project will culminate in a special around the one-year anniversary of Barack Obama’s inauguration, although bits and pieces will be seen along the way on various NBC News platforms and USA, the cable network owned by NBC Universal.
