Bantams cruise to fourth

YAKIMA – Dustin McConnell scored a game-high 26 points to lead Clarkston past Toppenish 65-51 on Saturday for fourth place in the State 2A boys basketball tournament at the SunDome.

McConnell, selected second-team all-tournament, sank 6 of 10 shots, including a pair of 3-pointers, and made 12 of 15 free throws.

Trey Sobotta, Chanse Brownell and Cody Brown each added 10 points for the Bantams (18-10), which won their eighth trophy in 19 state appearances.

Rosendo Aguilar scored 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting for Toppenish (16-13). The Wildcats earned their fifth trophy.

Clarkston never trailed. The Bantams raced to a 37-17 lead in the first half, then kept Toppenish at bay with free throws in the second half.

Clarkston made 25 of 33 foul shots overall.
