Builder plans apartments at Betz, Washington

The city of Cheney Community Development department has received an application from Lanzce Douglass to build the second phase of Eagle Point Apartments. This phase will include 384 apartments in 16 buildings on 21 acres of land. It also includes 986 parking spaces.

The area is zoned R-3, multifamily residential, and allows for one apartment per 2,000 square feet of site area, and one studio apartment per 1,000 square feet.

The land is at the southeast corner of Washington and Betz.

The planning department will receive comments about this application through next Thursday. A public hearing is not needed for this application.

The department is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Wheelchair games seeks volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the 29th annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games scheduled to be held in Spokane on July 13-18. The event is the largest annual wheelchair sporting event in the world and more than 500 athletes are expected to participate in the competition sponsored by the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The six days of competition will feature 17 events, including quad rugby, archery, swimming and track and field events. Admission to the event will be free to the public.

Volunteers can select which events they would like to help with and which days they can be available. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt. Contact Kathy Kovalesky at (509) 434-7510 to sign up by April 1.
