Mt. Spokane edges Shadle in opener

Colin Schaefer and Brennan Waller scored as Mt. Spokane opened the Greater Spokane League boys soccer season with a 2-1 win over Shadle Park at Albi Stadium.

Waller’s goal, at 52 minutes, came after a deflection off a Highlanders defender.

In other openers, Trevor Delmedico scored at 13 minutes and Ryan Wurz made eight saves to preserve Central Valley’s 1-0 win over Ferris at Albi Stadium. … Zach Allert scored at 13 minutes and University edged host East Valley 1-0 in sloppy conditions. Cojo Smith recorded the shutout. … Gabe Arias had three goals and one assist to lead Mead to a 9-0 win at Rogers. … Casey Ames scored late in the first half and early in the second half to lift host Lewis and Clark to a 3-0 win over Gonzaga Prep at Hart Field. Jamall Angel added an insurance goal at 65 minutes, gathering up the ball in front of the goal. Chris Holman had four saves for the Tigers.

Softball

Alyssa Erickson pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11, and Alexa Morales finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs as Central Valley defeated visiting East Valley 9-0. Erickson was also 2 for 4 with an RBI. CV’s Kim Guercio went 2 for 3 with an RBI. … Shadle Park’s game at University was postponed and rescheduled for 4 p.m. Monday.

Baseball

Tanner Hollingsworth singled, doubled and tripled to lead Lewiston to a 10-3 win over visiting Moscow in the Inland Empire League. Kyle Knigge, Kevin Hawk and Johnny Rake added two hits apiece for the Bengals, who finished with five doubles. Sam Rogers, Kasey Knigge and Zane Hobart combined to seven-hit the Bears. Hayden Maxwell singled and doubled for Moscow.
