New pizza parlor opens in Hico Market
A new pizza place has opened in the corner of Hico Market on South Perry Street.
Brett Wyatt opened Lalo’s Pizza and Calzone a couple of weeks ago and said he’s been well-received in the neighborhood.
“I’ve been working at one pizzeria or another for about 20 years, and I opened this because I wanted to have something for me and my family,” Wyatt said. “My three sons brag about me being a pizza guy.”
One-topping pizzas run from $5.99 to $16.99. Extra toppings are between $1 and $2.
Wyatt currently works with Pizza Rita at 2927 E. 29th Ave., which is where Lalo’s Express Take and Bake will open by mid-April.
“We’ll share space with Pizza Rita for a while,” said Wyatt. “Later, that Pizza Rita will turn into Lalo’s, so we’ll have two locations.”
Wyatt said his restaurant is named after a fictional character, a pudgy little guy. “I like to say he’s an Italian guy lost on the Pacific Rim, making pizza,” Wyatt said, laughing. “But really, he’s probably just me.”
