Day of prayer, Mother’s Day on the agenda

The Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Road, will present its annual Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mom can enjoy champagne, a carving station with roast beef and ham, waffles, salad, pasta and a dessert bar.

The brunch will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the retreat center and the grand opening of ABBA’s Catholic Bookstore. There will be children’s activities, a silent auction and a special gift for moms.

Tickets are $25 per adult and $6 for children ages 2-12.

Mass honors birth mothers

Childbirth and Parenting Alone, part of Catholic Charities, will present a special Mass to honor mothers who have placed their children up for adoption at noon Sunday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1503 W. Dean Ave.

Bishop William Skylstad will offer the Mass, and women and families of all faiths are welcome.

National Day of Prayer

Life Center Foursquare Church, 1202 N. Government Way, will present “Prayer! America’s Hope,” today as part of the 58th annual National Day of Prayer.

The Rev. Joe Wittwer will lead the service that will pray for our nation and leaders from noon to 1 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the church.

Concerts and more

•The Whitworth Choir will present a “Bon Voyage” concert Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Augustine Church, 428 W. 19th Ave.

The concert will be the choir’s kickoff to its South American tour which will take them to Uruguay and Argentina.

The cost to attend is a $7 donation for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present a readers’ theater production of “I Remember Mama” Friday at 7 p.m.

The play revolves around a family of Norwegian immigrants in San Francisco during the 1910s.

•St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will present a Celtic Creation Eucharist service Friday at 7 p.m.

The theme, “Wells and Water,” will discuss the mystery of wells and the spirituality of communion.

A reception with bluegrass music will follow the service.

Groundbreaking ceremony

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5810 S. Meadowlane Road, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday at 10 a.m. to celebrate the future home of the church’s new $2.34 million facility that will include the church sanctuary, fellowship hall and the Meadowland Christian School.

Seminars, conferences and lectures

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., will present the “Called to Care Conference” Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The conference will include people of faith learning to be good stewards of creation. Lunch is included.

The cost to attend is $15 per person or $10 a person for groups larger than three people.

•The Unity Center of North Spokane, 4123 E. Lincoln Road, will present the Sacred Healing Meditation Seminar Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 6 p.m.

Individual sessions with the Rev. Scott Sherman will be available Sunday afternoon and all day Monday to learn to use energy and powerful affirmations for an experience of divine love. There is a suggested donation of $60 for these individual sessions, but no one will be turned away.

South Hill Bible Church, 958 E. 29th Ave., will hold a rummage sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise funds for the Inland Northwest Camp for Awana Kids.
