Senior Jared Descoteaux fired a 73 at The Fairways at West Terrace on Wednesday to capture medalist honors and lead Northwest Christian to first place at the District 7 2B/1B boys golf tournament.
Descoteaux, who shot an 80 at the subdistrict, finished with a qualifying score of 153 to top Odessa junior Zach Powell by 18 strokes.
Colfax junior Caleb Bravard was another shot back.
NWC finished with 601/2 points, followed by Colfax (45), Odessa (411/2) and Lind-Ritzville (401/2).
The top 19 advance to the state tournament, Wednesday and next Thursday in the Tri-Cities.
•District 7 2A: Clarkston freshman Tyler Carlson finished with a two-round total of 150 to lead the way as the tournament wrapped up Tuesday at MeadowWood Golf Course. Sophomore Drew Coubrough had the day’s best score, a 74, to lead Colville to the team title. The top 13 players advance to state, although second-place Bo Baker of Clarkston has elected not to participate at the championships.
NJCAA championships: The first three days at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., have been washed out by heavy rains, forcing officials to move the event to Providence Golf Club near Orlando, Fla., for a one-day, 18-hole tournament today.
North Idaho College, playing in its first NJCAA championship, arrived in Florida on Sunday and saw its practice round rained out after about nine holes.
Rimington Trophy: Washington State University center Kenny Alfred was named to the spring watch list for the trophy, an award given annually to the nation’s top collegiate center.
