UW lands in softball Series

The No. 3 Washington softball team made quick work of Georgia Tech, beating the No. 14 Yellow Jackets 7-0 on Sunday in Atlanta for a sweep of their best-of-3 series and a berth in the Women’s College World Series.

Danielle Lawrie pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out eight, and helped her own cause with two home runs and four RBIs as the Huskies advanced to the WCWS for the ninth time. Lawrie issued no walks and improved her record to 37-7, breaking Washington’s season victories record.

Washington (46-11) opens the World Series against No. 6 Georgia on Thursday.
