In brief: First Friday offers information about NIC

COEUR D’ALENE – Students interested in attending North Idaho College are invited to NIC’s First Friday campus visitation program Friday at 9 a.m. in the Driftwood Bay Room of NIC’s Edminster Student Union Building.

The event will include a campus tour, an advising workshop designed to inform potential students about NIC’s academic and professional-technical programs, and a question-and-answer period.

Annual winter tour of area B&Bs Dec. 13

NORTH IDAHO – The North Idaho Bed and Breakfast Association will hold its 20th anniversary Winter Tour on Dec. 13, from noon to 5 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit nine B&Bs in the Coeur d’Alene area, north to Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint, Athol and Rathdrum and east to Kingston. Each location will be serving refreshments and many homes will have homemade gifts for sale.

The tour is free with a donation of canned food at each Bed and Breakfast visited.

Holidays and Heroes seeks donations

COEUR D’ALENE – To help those in need during this holiday season the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department, Post Falls Police Department, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department, Coeur d’Alene Police Department, Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, Rathdrum Police Department, Spirit Lake Police Department, Idaho State Police, Coeur d’Alene firefighters, along with volunteers, will come together for the Holidays and Heroes program.

Members of these agencies will take area children shopping at the Wal-Mart in Spokane Valley or Post Falls on Dec. 13. The children’s names are provided to the organizers by school resource officers, school counselors, patrol officers, deputy sheriffs, or firefighters who have come into contact with a needy child during this year.

The children will be picked up by law enforcement officers in their patrol cars and the policemen and firemen will take the children through the store, picking out Christmas gifts for the children and their families. The children also will have the opportunity to meet Santa Claus at Coeur d’Alene Greyhound Park after shopping. Volunteers will wrap the presents and prepare food baskets for each child’s family.

Cash donations and food items are being accepted for this event. Donations and items may be dropped off at: Spokane County Sheriff’s Office desk, 1100 W. Mallon Ave.; Spokane Valley office, 12710 E. Sprague Ave.; Post Falls Police Department, 1717 E. Polston Ave.; Kootenai County Sheriffs Department, 5500 N. Government Way; Rathdrum Police Department, 8178 W. Main St., Coeur d’Alene Police Department, 3818 Schreiber Way; and Kootenai County Fire Administration Office, 5271 E. Seltice Way.

Ski and snowshoe club to meet Tuesday

COEUR D’ALENE – The Panhandle Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Club will have a meeting at the U.S. Forest Service Building, 2502 E. Sherman Ave. in Coeur d’Alene, on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
