Bulldogs roll over Lions

Michelle Boevers led the way for Gonzaga (6-10, 2-1) with 12 kills and six blocks Saturday in a 25-21, 25-21, 25-21 West Coast Conference sweep of Loyola Marymount (9-9, 0-4) at Martin Centre.

Gonzaga matched its best conference start since 1997.

•The California Bears (9-6, 2-3) swept No. 25 Washington State 25-14, 25-19, 25-20 in Pac-10 play in Berkeley, Calif.

The Cougars (14-3, 3-3) finished the day hitting .158 at the net. Cal collected eight team blocks in the match.

•Wrapping up its trip to the Bay Area, No. 3 Washington (15-1, 5-1) fell for the first time this season, as No. 7 Stanford (11-4, 4-1) stopped a late rally in Game 5 to win 19-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12. The Huskies came back from a four-point deficit to within one in the final game, but Cassidy Lichtman’s kill gave Stanford a two-point edge and two Cardinal players came up with a block for the match point.

•Playing on the road for the second straight day, No. 1 North Idaho College could not fend off Salt Lake CC, which toppled the top-ranked Cardinals (22-4, 4-1) 25-15, 13-25, 25-21, 25-15 in Scenic West Athletic Conference action in Salt Lake City. SLCC (19-6, 4-1) was led by 17 kills from Shelbi Zaldain, while NIC committed 24 hitting errors.

•Down one in Game 5 to Pacific (7-9, 2-6), Whitworth (7-12, 3-5) rallied with five straight points to win the Northwest Conference match 25-15, 21-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-11 in Forest Grove, Ore. The Pirates won their third straight league match behind Ka’ipo Rocha who paced the Pirates with 11 kills and three blocks.

•Despite 21 kills and 26 digs from Sarah Conwell, Idaho (7-10, 3-2) could not close out Fresno State (10-7, 3-2), as the host Bulldogs came back to win 15-25, 23-25, 28-26, 25-22, 15-11.

Men’s soccer

Bellevue CC (7-3-2, 2-1-2) broke a 1-1 deadlock in the 43rd minute on a goal by Radcliff McDougald to defeat the visiting Community Colleges of Spokane 2-1 in NWAACC play. Matt Miller scored for CCS (4-7-1, 4-1-0) at the 13-minute mark to tie the game.

Women’s soccer

Danielle Foxhoven scored four goals and Halley Kreminski added three for No. 2 Portland (12-1, 1-0) in a 7-0 West Coast Conference win over Gonzaga (6-7, 0-1) in Portland.

•Tabitha Grow had a goal and an assist and Claire Pflueger was perfect in goal as the visiting Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (5-2-2, 5-1-1) netted three goals in the first half en route to a 3-0 NWAACC victory over Bellevue (2-6-1, 2-4-1).
