A little hunk o’ his hair

The King may be dead, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to run your fingers through his hair.

Elvis Presley’s hair – at least a clump of hair that he may have lost to an Army barber when he went into the service back in 1958 – is going on the auction block Sunday in Chicago.

It’s part of a collection of more than 200 items including clothes he wore, scarves he threw to screaming fans – who, judging by the yellow sweat stains, never washed them – and Christmas cards he sent.

There are lots of records, some he kept in his own juke box, and other memorabilia ranging from Elvis dolls to Elvis wrist watches to Elvis Pez dispensers.

All the items belonged to Gary Pepper, a close friend who died in 1980, three years after Presley. Pepper, who had cerebral palsy, left his collection to his nurse.

Raising some serious cash

Lenny Bruce’s daughter is auctioning some of her keepsakes to raise money for a planned memorial to him: Lenny’s House, a recovery home for women returning to society after drug and alcohol treatment.

Items up for bid online include one of Bruce’s trademark trench coats, a picture of him giving the finger outside a Chicago nightclub where he was arrested and another photo showing him setting fire to critics’ reviews calling him sick and unfunny.

The groundbreaking comedian died of a drug overdose in 1965.

New to the ’hood

Lauren Graham (“Gilmore Girls”) is joining the cast of NBC’s “Parenthood” in place of Maura Tierney, who’s being treated for breast cancer.

The series, based on the 1989 Steve Martin movie, is set to debut early next year.
