Pamela Anderson wants to save the seals from the annual hunt on Canada’s East Coast.

The Canadian-born actress and animal rights activist is among several celebrities who are taking part in an ad campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, along with singers Sarah McLachlan and Kelly Osborne and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

Outside Ontario’s legislature building Friday, Anderson, 42, cuddled a seal mascot and said she wanted to prevent the “barbaric massacre.”

Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Gail Shea suggested Anderson spend time with East Coast sealers to understand the hunt’s importance, adding: “Hollywood celebrities are not going to dictate policy in Canada because we make decisions that are based on science and consultation with Canadians.”

Go free, young West man

A court commissioner Friday dismissed criminal charges against Kanye West and his road manager stemming from a scuffle with photographers last year.

Misdemeanor charges were filed after West, 27, and Don Crawley were arrested on Sept. 11, 2008, after an altercation at Los Angeles International Airport that was recorded by celebrity gossip site TMZ.

The photographers and the rapper have reached civil settlements over the case, which resulted in a still camera, flash and a video camera being broken.
