Japan Week Spokane Art Contest – Artists are invited to submit original work that represents the spirit of Japan, ancient or modern. Washington Idaho Symphony Young Artist Competition – Open to Pacific Northwest instrumentalists and vocalists age 14 to 30. Semifinalists will be selected from submitted CDs of their performances. Call for writers

Artist Trust 2010 EDGE Program for Writers – Accepting applications for The EDGE Program, a hands-on, interactive curriculum which includes instruction by professionals as well as specialized presentations, panel discussions and assignments. Applicants must live in Washington state and cannot be enrolled in a graduate- or undergraduate-degree program. Children’s Poetry Contest – Spokane County students in grades 1-12 are invited to submit up to three poems no longer than 21 lines each. Finalists will be read onstage by Spokane-area actors during the Get Lit! literary festival in April 2010. Winning author will receive a free class at the Spokane Civic Theatre Academy. Poems may be on any subject appropriate for a family audience, should be the original work of the author and will be read and selected by a panel of judges. Entry deadline is Jan. 31.
