No. 25 Jayhawks cruise past Bears

Associated Press

Todd Reesing sparked slow-starting Kansas with two rushing touchdowns, then passed for two more to lead the No. 25 Jayhawks past the Northern Colorado Bears 49-3 Saturday night before the biggest home crowd in school history at Lawrence, Kan.

Reesing, who has nearly rewritten his school’s passing records, took a seat on the bench midway through the fourth quarter with the Jayhawks holding a 35-3 lead. He hit 13 of 20 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns and scored on runs of 2 and 13 yards.

Jake Sharp scored on a 2-yard run and a 10-yard pass before the Memorial Stadium record crowd of 53,530, a fan base that’s been energized by 20 wins the past two years and seems to appreciate no longer being known as a basketball-only school.

Wyoming 29, Weber State 22: At Laramie, Wyo., Darius Terry rushed for two touchdowns in the Cowboys’ new no-huddle, spread offense to beat the Wildcats and give former Missouri offensive coordinator Dave Christensen his first win as head coach.

Christensen, who was hired last winter to rejuvenate an anemic Wyoming offense, didn’t disappoint as the Cowboys easily exceeded its 2008 per-game production for points scored and total yards.

Michigan State 44, Montana State 3: At East Lansing, Mich., Kirk Cousins threw three touchdown passes and Keith Nichol tossed two as the Spartans cruised past the Bobcats.

The Spartans overmatched their first opponent from the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly known as Division I-AA.

Montana State has lost four straight against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents since upsetting Colorado in 2006.

Montana 38, Western State 0: At Missoula, Steve Pfahler caught two second-half touchdown passes to lead the Grizzlies to a victory over the Division II Mountaineers.

Montana started out slow on offense, scoring only 10 points in the first half, but the Grizzly defense smothered Western State, holding the Mountaineers to 116 yards of total offense.

UNLV 38, Sacramento State 3: At Las Vegas, Channing Trotter rushed for 102 yards and three 1-yard touchdowns to lead the Rebels to a victory over the overmatched Hornets.

UNLV quarterback Omar Clayton passed for 213 yards.
