Must be hiding her true colors

Lauper (The Spokesman-Review)
From Wire Reports

Cyndi Lauper plays a psychic on tonight’s season premiere of Fox’s “Bones” (8 p.m., KAYU-28), but don’t look for any flamboyant fashions.

“I didn’t think she should look like Rhoda from the ’70s,” says Lauper, referring to the TV character made famous by Valerie Harper.

Lauper plays Avalon Harmonia, a medium who leads series stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz to a crime scene and then becomes a suspect.

“I can read tarot cards but I do it with an instruction manual,” she jokes.

The 56-year-old singer may enjoy acting, but seeing herself on screen is another story.

“No matter how I try to lose myself (in character) there I am,” she says.

Still, viewers may see more of Lauper on the show in the future. She says her story line is left open for a possible return.

Taking it on the chin

Critics may not have loved Jay Leno’s prime-time debut, but 17.7 million viewers tuned in to check him out Monday night.

That’s the biggest audience for a prime-time show since the “American Idol” finale in May.

Critics were harsh, with Robert Bianco of USA Today slamming it as a “cut-rate, snooze-inducing, rehashed bore.”

Smokey and the opiates

Actor Burt Reynolds has checked himself into a rehab facility to be treated for an addiction to painkillers.

The 73-year-old actor’s manager said he was struggling after recent back surgery and “realized that he was in the prison of prescription pain pills.”
