Carroll’s song pick says a lot

‘Kids not alright,’ but on rebound, tweets coach

Associated Press

Sounds as if Pete Carroll is still smarting over that loss to Washington.

The Southern California coach tweeted “The Kids Aren’t Alright” by Offspring as his song of the day selection Monday.

USC was upset by the Huskies 16-13 in Seattle on Saturday. Carroll’s Twitter account is usually very active, but there hadn’t been a post since before the Trojans lost on a field goal in the final seconds – until his interesting SOTD choice.

The song’s chorus does seem apropos:

“Chances thrown, nothing’s free/Longing for, used to be/Still it’s hard, hard to see/Fragile lives, shattered dreams.”

No. 12 USC, which dropped nine spots in the latest rankings, plays Washington State at home Saturday.

Later Carroll tweeted more optimistically: what’s crucial is not the adversity but how you respond to it … we’re on the rebound … the bounce is what counts.
