In brief: Festival of Trees seeks donations

COEUR D’ALENE – Christmas shopping for the 2009 Festival of Trees, to be held Nov. 27 through Nov. 30, has already begun.

Festival planners will have a family raffle tree, new this year, that will include books, toys, games and gift cards to be raffled off.

Organizers are asking the community and business owners to donate new, unwrapped items, as well as cash to purchase additional items for the Family Raffle Tree.

The annual fundraiser for Kootenai Health will help provide wellness programs at the new Kootenai Cancer Center in Post Falls.

Women’s class focuses on change

COEUR D’ALENE – The North Idaho College Center for New Directions will offer a three-week “opportunities” class to women experiencing a major change in their lives, beginning Monday and running through Oct. 15. The class will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, in Siebert Hall, Room 111.

The course will focus on self-esteem, future goals, self-sufficiency and networking. Women taking the class will learn how employment, education, training and communication can be opportunities for change in their lives. Participants may take free assessments to realize the strengths and fundamentals of their personalities.

The course is free to women in transition. Preregistration is required.

NIC showcases sports at luncheon

COEUR D’ALENE – The North Idaho College Cardinal Athletics Showcase will be Tuesday at the Coeur d’Alene Resort at 11:30 a.m.

The event is a presentation of NIC’s fall athletics season and preseason predictions for the upcoming winter and spring sports. The sports-filled afternoon includes lunch.

Cost is $10 and is open to the public.

Workshop focuses on new students

COEUR D’ALENE – The Admissions Office staff at North Idaho College will hold an advising workshop including a question and answer period for prospective students on Friday at 9 a.m. in the Driftwood Bay Room of NIC’s Edminster Student Union Building. The staff will also give participants a campus tour.

The event, also known as First Friday, is held on the first Friday of every month throughout the academic year and offers prospective students the opportunity to visit the campus and learn about NIC’s programs and services. Visitors can speak with NIC staff about specific areas of study, ask questions and tour the campus.
