Shooting suspect arrested; companion, weapon sought

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a suspect in a July 30 shooting that left a man with a gunshot wound to the head.

Christopher T. Jackson, 24, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on Tuesday on a single charge of first-degree assault, according to a news release.

Police tracked Jackson down at his home on the 8900 block of East Bigelow Gulch Road, where they discovered bullet casings but no gun.

They were able to find him because of witness descriptions of a getaway car, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

On the day in question, a man and two women were in a car northbound on Thierman Road approaching Bigelow Gulch Road when they passed Jackson and a second person walking on the west shoulder.

As the car passed, the driver saw Jackson and the other person raise their arms and took it as a sign of disrespect. The driver turned around and swerved his car toward the pair, according to the news release.

Jackson is accused of firing a gun into the car, hitting the driver. The man was taken to a local hospital and later released.

Police do not believe Jackson knew the victims, Reagan said.

The case remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Anyone with information about Jackson’s companion or the pistol used is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
