Wildfire contained north of Airway Heights

Spokane County and Airway Heights firefighters have a fire on Hayford Road northeast of Airway Heights contained. Crews are working to establish a more solid containment line around the 5-7 burned acres, said Fire District 10 Chief Nick Scharff. There are no injuries, and no homes threatened. The fire occurred over a mix of wetland and scabland terrain, Scharff said. The fire was located in the 5500 block of north Hayford Road. The smoke plume was visible from downtown Spokane. A crew from Airway Heights responded to the fire after 3 p.m.
