In brief: Car seat safety checks Jan. 30

LIBERTY LAKE – On Jan. 30, parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to have their child’s car seat inspected by a certified safety technician for free.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at George Gee, 21502 E. George Gee Ave. in Liberty Lake, safety technicians will be checking car seats to see that they’ve been installed correctly, are the right size for your child, and that your child is safe while riding in the car.

The event is being sponsored by the Spokane Regional Health District and Safe Kids Spokane.

Youth soccer needs coaches

SPOKANE VALLEY – Coaches are needed for the Spokane Valley Youth spring soccer season.

The season runs April to May for ages 4 to 13.

Small business workshop planned

EMERSON/GARFIELD – The Spokane office of the Washington State Department of Revenue, 1330 N. Washington St., will host a free workshop for new and small business owners on Tuesday, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Participants will receive a workbook and reference guide to Department of Revenue rules and regulations and will learn about Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection, and record-keeping requirements.

Clunker bicycles earn credit at shop

RIVERSIDE – Union Gospel Mission and Pedals2People, along with Two Wheel Transit, 1405 W. First Ave., have joined together for the Bike Cash for Clunkers program, running through Feb. 15.

The program will first help the community bring their old, unused bikes out of the garage or basement and put them to good use. Two Wheel Transit will assess each bike for safety and serviceability and issue an in-store credit from $25 to $100 toward the purchase price of any 2010 Trek or Gary Fisher bicycle at the store, or in stock at Trek Bicycles. The bicycle shop will then service and transport suitable bikes to UGM and Pedals2People.

Register now for Spokane River Run

SPOKANE COUNTY – Registration for the 2010 Spokane River Run, April 18, is available online.

The run will include 5k, 10k, 25k and 50k trail events.
