Pratt vaults into first at CV meet

Mead gymnast Cadie Pratt won the floor and vault events and took second in the bars and the beam to edge Lewis and Clark’s Lily Hoch for first in the all-around with 35.925 points and the Panthers took the team prize in their GSL meet Thursday, scoring 166.075 points at Central Valley.

University took second with 158.25 points, with Central Valley (150.975) and LC (135.275) finishing third and fourth.

Hoch finished with 34.275 points, winning the bars with a score of 8.7. U-Hi’s Stacie Davis won the beam by .25 points over Pratt, with a score of 9.45 to Pratt’s 9.425.

Boys basketball

Trailing by four at the half, Wallace (4-6, 2-0) jumped out big against Kootenai (5-8, 2-1) with a 21-6 edge in the third quarter, heating up from the outside to win 53-44 and take possession of first place in the North Star League in Wallace. Zach St. Clair had 15 points to lead the Miners.

In nonleague games: Casey McKinnon’s 13 points paced Mullan (4-5) against Project Coeur d’Alene (1-7), adding 10 rebounds and four assists, while the Tigers held the Tasmanian Devils to just 6-of-24 shooting in Mullan to win 42-23. … Louie Bluff, Tyler Edwards and Spencer Shanholtzer combined for 41 points as visiting Cusick (11-2) rolled 65-42 against Coeur d’Alene Charter (8-6). Edwards and Bluff each scored 14, Shanholtzer added 13 and Jacob Prine rounded out the Panthers’ double-digit scoring with 12.

Girls basketball

Cara Verhaeghe scored 11 of her 18 points in the second half, going 6 of 8 from the free-throw line and Coeur d’Alene Charter (3-8) came back from a first-half deficit to knock off Lakeside (6-5) 44-34 in a nonleague game in Plummer. Tah-wy-ah Davis led the Knights with 20 points and Jaycee Goudy added nine rebounds and six blocks.

In other non-league games: Brynn Kuetemeyer scored 13 points and after trailing Kootenai (1-10) 8-7 after one quarter, North Idaho Christian jumped out to a seven-point lead by halftime before pulling away for the 51-38 win in Harrison.

Wrestling

Ian Nelson at 215 pounds led Colville (1-3) with a pin in 3:19 and the Indians won their Great Northern League dual against Pullman (0-3) 66-18 in Colville.

In another GNL meet, Hunter Orgille of Riverside (4-0) helped spark a four-match streak against Cheney (0-2), beating Cameron Schlotter 4-2 at 215 pounds and the Rams won six of seven to win their dual 36-26 in Riverside.
