Jay’s out in Rosie’s picture

O’Donnell
From Wire Reports

Rosie O’Donnell says it’s time for Jay Leno to step aside to make room for Conan O’Brien.

“If you’re privileged enough to drive the bus, you should say, ‘Thank you’ and drive it to the best of your ability, and when it’s time for them to hire a new driver, you should say ’Thank you for allowing me to drive this as long as I did’ and pass the keys to the new guy with red hair, and not try to flatten his tires before he even gets going,” she told reporters.

On her blog, O’Donnell said that when Leno started on the “Tonight” show in the early 1990s, NBC’s Brandon Tartikoff offered her the chance to sub for him on Friday nights – but Leno nixed the idea.

O’Donnell, who previously hosted her own daytime talk show and was a co-host on “The View,” said she has no interest in late night, particularly given what’s going on now.

“That question today is like asking if I’d want to have a vacation in Haiti,” she said.

Passing the ball

Speaking of “The View,” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is trading places for a day with her husband, ESPN football analyst Tim Hasselbeck.

She’ll spend Tuesday afternoon at ESPN, subbing for him on “NFL Live.”

Behind-the-scenes footage of that will air Jan. 28 on “The View,” with Tim Hasselbeck occupying his wife’s chair.

Stepping up to the plate

And speaking of Haiti, Madonna said Friday she has donated $250,000 toward earthquake relief efforts through Partners in Health.

Not On Our Watch, an advocacy group founded by George Clooney, Brad Pitt and others, on Friday donated $1 million to Partners in Health.
