’Hawks sink Bantams

DeAngelo Jones scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half to lead Cheney to a 68-61 upset win over Clarkston (7-3, 4-1) on Friday in Cheney.

Jones added seven boards in the win and Dalton Harding finished with 14 points and went 6 of 8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, helping the Blackhawks (7-5, 3-3) sink the final remaining unbeaten team in the Great Northern League. Dustin McConnell had 24 points for the Bantams in the loss.

Pullman 56, West Valley 48: Skylar Hatch had 12 points and eight rebounds, and after a slow first half the Greyhounds (5-6, 4-1) got things going in the second, scoring 34 points to outlast the Eagles (6-6, 3-3) at West Valley. Brady Bagby had 19 points for WV and Matt Roth added 12 rebounds to his six points.

Riverside 75, Medical Lake 58: Kelly Vaughn led with 18 points and nine rebounds and the Rams (4-7, 2-4) upended the Cardinals (1-10, 0-5) in Medical Lake. Kevin Fisher tried to bring the Cardinals back with 23 points in the final three quarters, but the Rams shot 43 percent from the floor to keep control.

Deer Park 45, Colville 37: Colton Peone had 11 points and the Stags (9-3, 5-1) pulled away from the Indians (2-9, 1-4) at the end of the first half with a 14-4 edge in the second quarter in Colville.

Inland Empire

Post Falls 73, Coeur d’Alene 65: Marcus Colbert and Shawn Reid combined for 23 second-half points, finishing with 18 and 17 points, respectively, and after trailing the Vikings (11-4, 2-1) 24-17 in the second quarter, the Trojans (12-2, 2-1) went on a 14-0 run and never trailed again in Coeur d’Alene. Devon Austin scored 25 points for the Vikings in the loss.

Northeast A

Chewelah 59, Newport 40: Josh Christian scored 12 points with seven rebounds and the Cougars (11-6, 3-2) forced 28 turnovers by the Grizzlies (5-11, 1-4), while committing only 11 miscues to move into a tie for second place in the league standings in Newport.

Freeman 48, Lakeside 44: The Eagles (7-10, 3-2) held a nine-point lead at halftime, but that lead evaporated during a 17-7 third-quarter run by the Scotties (13-4, 5-0) that gave them the lead for good in Nine Mile Falls. Taylor Vold of Freeman and Lakeside’s Jake Erickson each scored 12 points to lead the game.

District 9 North

Garfield-Palouse 46, Pomeroy 40: Gavin Burt had 17 points and Garret Pfaff hit two 3s in the final minute of play to help extend the Vikings’ (9-3, 3-0) lead over the Pirates (6-7, 2-1) from one to six in Palouse.

Rosalia 75, LaCrosse-Washtucna 34: Jim Maley recorded 20 points and nine rebounds, Nathan Richards added 15 points, nine boards and five blocks and the Spartans (16-0, 6-0) opened things up from inside the paint, outrebounding the host Tigercats (6-10) 42-14 with 26 offensive rebounds.

St. John-Endicott 57, Asotin 50: Warren Miller scored 15 points to lead three players in double figures and the host Eagles (5-8) created separation with pressure defense against the Panthers (7-7), holding them to six second-quarter points.

Colton 67, Tekoa-   Oakesdale 52: Dustin Patchin notched a double-double, scoring 24 points and adding 14 rebounds with three blocks, and Josh Straughan chipped in 13 points and nine assists as the Wildcats (6-8) upended the Nighthawks (2-10) in Colton.

Panorama

Wellpinit 60, Republic 49: Cody Flett scored 22 points, Kennedy Seyler added 19 and the Redskins (14-2, 11-0) closed the game on an 18-10 run after allowing the Tigers (9-6, 4-7) to pull within three in Republic.

Northport 56, St. Michael’s 54: Rafael Brandao hit the winning bucket with 40 seconds remaining, Matt Owings added 17 points and the Mustangs (3-9, 3-8) edged the Warriors (2-10, 2-9) in Northport. Michael Ochoa scored 26 points off the bench to lead the Warriors.

Selkirk 62, Columbia 33: Zach Jensen and Nick Milliren combined for 35 points, Hunter Enyeart added 17 rebounds to his nine points and five assists and the Rangers (11-6, 8-4) opened up a 17-point lead at halftime over the Lions (3-13, 3-9) in Ione.

Springdale 74, Curlew 59: Rodney Abrahamson scored 26 points, with 14 coming in a 21-point fourth quarter, for the Chargers (9-8, 5-6) to hold off the Cougars (0-14, 0-11) in Curlew.

St. George’s 43, Inchelium 34: Nik Vishwanath had 12 points and Jordan Dickson added 11 as the Dragons (13-4, 9-2) overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to outscore the Hornets (10-5, 7-4) 28-11 in the second half in Inchelium.

North Star

Wallace 52, Mullan 33: Clancy Drews scored 11 of his 22 points in the third quarter, hitting three 3-pointers, allowing the Miners (6-6, 4-0) to take a commanding lead over the Tigers (4-7, 1-3) in Wallace. Drews combined with Stephen Heinig for 20 rebounds.

Nonleague

Moscow 40, Lake City 34: Mac Stannard scored nine of his 17 points from the free-throw line to lead the Bears (11-2) in their win over the Timberwolves (8-5) in Coeur d’Alene. Against the slow-down style of the Bears, LC struggled, hitting 11 of 53 from the floor, including 6 of 28 inside the paint.

Lakeland 66, St. Maries 47: Joel Underdahl tallied a double-double with 25 points and 10 boards and the Hawks (10-6) used the momentum of a 10-point halftime lead to pull away from the visiting Lumberjacks (5-4) in the second half at Rathdrum.

Timberlake 51, Kootenai 34: Brian Cronnelly and Cooper Simpson led with 11 points each, Derek Tymesen added 10 points and the Tigers (7-8) used defense to dispatch the Warriors (6-9) in Spirit Lake.

Lind-Ritzville 71, Odessa 57: Bryce Hilzer scored 18 points and Jake Eichner hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter, finishing with 13 points, to give the Broncos (11-4) an early lead over the Tigers (7-9) they would never relinquish. Odessa’s Kramer Schutz scored a game-high 22 points.

Colfax 69, Sprague-Harrington 32: Brandon Gfeller had 14 points and the visiting Bulldogs (9-5) took advantage of quick starts in each half, outscoring the Falcons (1-14) 45-13 in the first and third quarters.

Davenport 58, Wilbur-Creston 40: Playing the Wildcats (10-6) without their leading scorer Austin Snavely, the visiting Gorillas (13-2) spread things out with 10 players contributing points, including 37 bench points.

Almira/Coulee-Hart- line 70, Valley Christian 53: Derek Isaak notched 15 of his 26 points in the first half as the host Warriors (10-6) outscored the Panthers (2-13) 35-15 in the first half at Coulee City. Cody Jess added 15 points for the Warriors, while Craver Small paced VC with 18.
