Spokane woman dies is scooter crash

A 54-year-old Spokane woman was killed Friday night after the scooter she was driving collided with a car in north Spokane County. The woman, who was not identified, was northbound on Wandermere Road on a 2007 Roadrunner Scooter about 10:40 p.m., when a 1985 Pontiac Firebird, driven by a 21-year-old Deer Park man, turned left in front of her near the intersection with Glencrest Drive, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office reported. The woman was ejected, and died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. Prior to the crash, Deputy Phil Pfeifer spotted the Firebird southbound on Wandermere near Highway 395 with only one headlight, authorities said. Pfeifer, who was northbound on Highway 395, turned around at Hatch Road and was attempting to catch up to the Firebird to pull him over when he came upon the accident, sheriff’s officials said. The driver of the Firebird, who was not identified, gave consent for a voluntary blood draw. Toxicology results won’t be known for a month. An autopsy of the woman is scheduled for Monday. The crash is under investigation. No charges or citations have been issued.
