Kentucky squeaks out win

Associated Press

John Wall scored seven of his 15 points in overtime, and No. 2 Kentucky (32-2) rallied from five down with 2:28 left in regulation to beat Mississippi St. (23-11) 75-74 on Sunday at Nashville, Tenn., for the Wildcats’ 26th Southeastern Conference tournament championship.

The Wildcats blew earlier chances with their fabulous freshmen Wall and DeMarcus Cousins missing free throws and making youthful mistakes. The SEC tournament title is the first for Kentucky since 2004.

(4) Duke 65, Georgia Tech 61: Kyle Singler scored 20 points and Jon Scheyer hit a critical 3-pointer with 18 seconds left to help the Blue Devils (29-5) beat the Yellow Jackets (22-12) in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championship game at Greensboro, N.C.

Scheyer finished with 16 points for the top-seeded Blue Devils, who let an 11-point lead with 6 minutes remaining slip all the way to one before Scheyer’s big shot. Nolan Smith also had 16 points.

(5) Ohio St. 90, Minnesota 61: When it appeared there was nothing more Evan Turner could do to make his Big Ten tournament performance better, the junior had 31 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Buckeyes (27-7) over the Golden Gophers (21-13) in the championship game at Indianapolis.

Turner’s 31 points were a tournament record in a championship game.

(17) Temple 56, Richmond 52: Ryan Brooks hit four free throws over the final 50 seconds and the top-seeded Owls (29-5) won their third straight conference tournament title, holding off a gutty rally by the Spiders (26-8) for a victory in the Atlantic 10 championship game at Atlantic City, N.J.
