PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. – Proud parents Jim Whittaker and Dianne Roberts say son Leif Whittaker has reached the summit of Mount Everest and is on his way down.
Roberts of Port Townsend, Wash., said Tuesday her son reached the top of the world’s tallest peak about 7 p.m. Monday.
The younger Whittaker is following in the footsteps of his father, who was the first American to top Mount Everest in 1963.
