In brief: Ex-Trail Blazer Lucas dies at 58
Basketball: Maurice Lucas, the fierce power forward who helped lead the Portland Trail Blazers to the 1977 NBA title, has died after a long fight with bladder cancer. He was 58.
The Trail Blazers said Lucas died Sunday.
Lucas, whose No. 20 was retired by the Blazers in 1988, joined Portland in the 1976 ABA dispersal draft and led the 1976-77 championship team in scoring with a 20.2 average. He also averaged 11.2 rebounds that season.
The former Marquette player averaged 14.4 points and 8.8 rebounds in 12 NBA seasons with Portland, New Jersey, New York, Phoenix, the Los Angeles Lakers and Seattle.

Football: Oregon and Auburn have swapped spots atop the BCS standings and Boise State has been passed again, this time by TCU.
The Ducks (8-0) moved into first place for the first time this season, which is interesting but not necessarily important. Auburn (9-0) grabbed the top spot last week, but Oregon caught up after beating Southern California 53-32, leaving the Tigers in second place.
Oregon is No. 1 in the two polls used in the standings and No. 2 according to the computer ratings. Auburn is first in the computers and No. 2 among the poll voters.

Ochoa tops Montgomerie
Golf: Lorena Ochoa came out of retirement and made $1.28 million with her two-shot victory over Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie in the pro-celebrity Star Trophy at Mission Hills in Haikou, China.
Ochoa, the Mexican star who retired last year at the top of her game, had rounds of 71-71 to earn the winner-take-all check. Montgomerie was penalized two shots after his caddie moved a sign on the 16th hole.
