In briefs: GSL teams take aim at state bids

Three is the operative number for Greater Spokane League volleyball and girls soccer teams this weekend when state berths are on the line at Eastern Regional tournaments.

There are three state berths in the 4A and 3A volleyball tournaments and three state berths available at the 4A girls soccer tourneys.

Here’s a look at each:

Volleyball

4A: The tourney is Saturday at Wenatchee High School.

In a loser-out opener, GSL No. 3 seed Lewis and Clark takes on Columbia Basin Big Nine No. 2 Wenatchee at 1 p.m. In another loser-out match, CBBN No. 3 Moses Lake faces GSL No. 2 Central Valley at 1.

The LC/Wenatchee winner advances to face defending state champ and GSL No. 1 Mead at 3. Mead is ranked No. 2 in the Seattle Times’ poll. The Moses Lake/CV winner takes on CBBN No. 1 Richland, which is ranked No. 1, also at 3.

The title match is at 6.

3A: The tourney is Saturday at two sites in Spokane – Rogers and Mt. Spokane.

In loser-out openers at 1 p.m., CBBN No. 3 Kamiakin takes on GSL No. 2 University at Rogers and CBBN No. 4 Kennewick faces CBBN No. 2 Southridge at Mt. Spokane.

The Kamiakin/U-Hi winner faces CBBN No. 1, West Valley-Yakima, at Rogers, and the Kennewick/Southridge winner goes against GSL No. 1 Mt. Spokane, at Mt. Spokane. Both matches are at 3. Mt. Spokane is ranked No. 1 in the state and WV-Yakima is No. 3.

The title match is at 6.
