In brief: Redman adds to rowing medal count
Rowing: The United States crew of Anna Goodale, Amanda Polk, Spokane’s Jamie Redman (picured above), Taylor Ritzel, Esther Lofgren, Eleanor Logan, Meghan Musnicki, Katherine Glessner and Mary Whipple won the women’s eights final Sunday in the World Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro near Cambridge, New Zealand.
For Redman (Lewis and Clark High) it was the latest in a series of world-class achievements.
She won a silver medal at the World Rowing Championships in 2009 and added two gold medals at the World Rowing Cup in Switzerland in July prior to being selected for the 2010 world championships.
“What a day! I’m still pinching myself to make sure I’m not just sleeping. It’s been a total whirlwind the past 12 hours and I’m pretty sure my endorphin high still hasn’t worn off,” Redman posted on a blog Sunday.

Suh pinch-kicks for Hanson
Football: At first it seemed like a fun novelty – 307-pound Ndamukong Suh lining up to kick an extra point for Detroit as the home crowd shouted his name.
Then Suh’s kick hit the right upright. The Lions could have used that point later in the game.
Suh’s miss came in the third quarter Sunday, moments after kicker Jason Hanson (Mead High, Washington State) was injured. Detroit lost 23-20 in overtime to New York after the Jets tied the game on a last-second field goal.
Hanson was playing his 295th game with Detroit, one fewer than the record Bruce Matthews set with the Tennessee Titans franchise for games played with one team. Hanson returned in the fourth quarter to kick an extra point.

Lindell’s streak comes to an end
Football: Bills kicker Rian Lindell missed an extra point attempt against the Bears that ended his streak of extra points at 321 – the fourth longest in NFL history.
Lindell’s attempt following Fred Jackson’s 4-yard touchdown in the third quarter Sunday was blocked by the Bears’ Israel Idonije.
It was Lindell’s first extra-point miss since the former Washington State Cougar entered the league in 2001, the longest streak to start a career in NFL history.
Matt Stover has the record with 422 consecutive extra points from 1996-2009.
