Arts briefs: Quartet celebrates heritage

The Spokane String Quartet will celebrate the ethnic heritage of three of its members in its concert Sunday at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox.

The program includes Zhou Long’s Song of the Ch’in, for violist Jeannette Wee-Yang, born in Singapore; Karol Szymanowski’s String Quartet No. 2, Op. 56, for violinist Mateusz Wolski, from Poland; and Edvar Grieg’s String Quartet in G minor, Op. 27, for cellist Helen Byrne, who claims English and Norwegian roots.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students, through the Fox box office (509-624-1200) or TicketsWest outlets (800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).

EWU Jazz Dialogue

Grammy-winning trumpet player Brian Lynch headlines this year’s Jazz Dialogue Festival at Eastern Washington University.

Lynch, who performs regularly with Phil Woods and Eddie Palmieri, will be featured in a public concert Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Showalter Auditorium on the Cheney campus.

There also will be a concert Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the same location. Tickets for each performance are $15 for adults, $7 for students and seniors 55 and older.

Both concerts will feature a variety of performers who will work as clinicians during the day with middle school, high school and college students from throughout the Northwest.
