DVD releases: ‘Scott Pilgrim’ fun film

Philadelphia Inquirer

“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”: Edgar Wright’s eye-popping, ear-hopping adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels is a ridiculously entertaining romp. Michael Cera stars as the Toronto youth who must dispose of his beloved’s exes (video-game style) to win her heart. (1:53; PG-13 for stylized violence, sexual content, language and drug references) • • •

“Grown Ups”: A reunion comedy in both concept (school buddies come together 30 years later) and cast (“Saturday Night Live” confreres Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade), full of humiliation jokes physical, emotional and sexual. Dignity is not a priority. Kevin James, Maria Bello and Salma Hayek co-star. (1:42; PG-13 for crude material including suggestive references, language and male rear nudity) • •

“Ramona and Beezus”: Like the beloved Beverly Cleary books that inspired it, Elizabeth Allen’s captivating film shows what the world looks like from the perspective of a scrappy 9-year-old who is neither as fearless as she thinks nor as hopeless as others peg her. Lovely performances from Selena Gomez as Beezus and Joey Lewis as Ramona. (1:44; G) • • •

“Charlie St. Cloud”: Enjoyably moist ghost story starring Zac Efron as a high-school hotshot haunted by an error of judgment and learning to move past grief into acceptance. (1:49; PG-13 for language including some sexual references, intense accident scene and sensuality) • • 1/2
