Sheriff’s Office says man shot brother

A fatal shooting Saturday night is being called an apparent act of self-defense. A 41-year-old man was shot to death just before 8:30 p.m. in the 13000 block of East Bridges Road near Elk, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived they questioned the man’s girlfriend, his brother and his brother’s wife. The brother, who has not been identified, told deputies that he was outside in the dark when he was attacked by an unknown person. He ran into the home, got a gun and fired at the intruder, not knowing it was his brother, the Sheriff’s Office said. No arrests were made. Major Crimes detectives are investigating. An autopsy is expected to be completed today. The victim’s identity will not be released until then.
