Events aim to raise awareness of hunger, homelessness

Food for Thought, the annual Shalom Ministries dinner in observance of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. The dinner at Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third Ave., is planned and served by students of Gonzaga and Whitworth universities, as well as community partners. On Friday, the Spokane Mental Health Homelessness Outreach Team will hold its annual Winter Wear Drive for the homeless at First Covenant Church, Second Avenue and Division Street, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Department of Social and Health Services Mobile Community Services Office will be there to accept applications and conduct eligibility interviews for Basic Food, cash and medical benefits.
