Roundup: Idaho begins basketball season 3-0

Yinka Olorunnife totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds and Idaho (3-0) overcame a sluggish start to escape with a 64-63 double-overtime nonconference win over UC Santa Barbara (0-4) Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Olorunnife hit both ends of a 1-and-1 with 14 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. The Vandals built a five-point lead in the second overtime before holding on. It is the first time since the 2003-04 season that Idaho has started 3-0.

Brigham Young 80, Washington 55: Stephanie Vermunt had 17 points on 4-of-6 3-point shooting and Coriann Fraughton added 11 points and nine rebounds as the Cougars (1-2) cruised to a nonconference win over the Huskies (1-1) in Provo, Utah.

Northwest 78, Whitworth 61: Kia Gibson (Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls) came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points and the Eagles (4-3) outrebounded the Pirates (0-2) 26-7 in the second half on the second day of the Quality Inn Oakwood Classic in Spokane.

Jamie Lyons and Taylor LaMoreaux each had 12 points to lead Whitworth.

Boise State 64, Eastern Washington 60: Julia Marshall and Kati Isham combined for 27 points and the Broncos (3-1) shot 50 percent from the field in the second half to beat the Eagles (1-3) in nonconference play in Boise.

North Idaho 69, Colby CC 52: Tugce Canitez scored a game-high 16 points with 10 rebounds and Deanna Dotts added 11 points and 13 rebounds as NIC (8-0) beat CCC at the Casper (Wyo.) Tournament.

The Cardinals finished 2-0 at the tournament, led by Canitez, who collected a double-double in both games.
