Education Notebook: Franklin plans gifts, crafts fair
Just in time for the holiday shopping, Franklin Elementary School will host “Once Upon A Time … A Gift and Craft Fair” on Dec. 4 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The daylong event will feature local handmade crafts and poinsettias, and raffle tickets will be sold for 4-foot storybook-themed Christmas trees.
Admission is free. Proceeds will benefit school programs.

Class teaches kids to be cyber-savvy
Keeping your kids safe all the time isn’t always easy to do, especially when kids are spending time surfing the net.
Brent Howard, the technology integration specialist at the Education Service District 101, will present an information session “Cyber-Savvy Kids: Keeping Them Safe Online” on Dec. 6 in the Mt. Spokane High School theater from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Howard will cover topics about social networking sites, such as Facebook and MySpace, online predators, cyber-bullying, and text messaging harassment.

Ferris hosts auction, swing dance
Local swing cats will want to put on their dancing shoes for the Ferris High School Swing Dance and Auction, to be held Dec. 11 in the gymnasium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the fun begins with a silent auction at 7.
The live auction starts at 8 and dancing at 9. Music will be performed by Ferris’ own Jazz Orchestra.
Auction items include a chauffeured wine-tasting trip and a ski weekend getaway to Sandpoint.
Tickets are $10 per person and include dessert by Cake the Bakery of Chaps. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
