Scottish tartan blessing on Sunday

The annual Kirkin O’ the Tartan, a blessing of the Scottish clan tartans, will be at the Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 W. Fourth Ave., on Sunday, at 10:30 a.m.

The original ceremony was held in the ban of the kilt and tartan cloth by the British in the 1700s. The modern ceremony originated in the United States in the 1940s, to commemorate the bonds of Scottish-American and Canadian descendants with their home country.

The blessing will be followed by Scottish music and entertainment by Ruby Devine, along with refreshments at 11:30 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the Spokane Scottish St. Andrews Society.
