Bike lanes vs. student safety

Returning after summer vacation this year, I found a new bike lane on Howard Street between Indiana and Mission where parents pull over between 2:30 and 2:45 to pick up kids from North Central High School. Immediately at 2:30, at the dismissal bell, the little parking enforcement vehicles show up to shoo anyone out of those lanes that dare to pull over instead of stopping in traffic so that their child can get in the car.

One parking enforcement driver flipped a U-turn in front of me, nearly hitting a student crossing the street in the crosswalk. Parents are literally forced to wait single file down an alley or circle the block. I care about bicyclists but I care more about a safe school zone. It doesn’t look like the city shares my view.
