WAC briefs: Nevada remains perfect

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick ran for a pair of first-quarter touchdowns and Vai Taua carried 16 times for 196 yards and three touchdowns – including a 73-yarder in the third quarter – to lead the 21st-ranked and unbeaten Nevada Wolf Pack to a 35-13 victory over the San Jose State Spartans in Western Athletic Conference play Saturday in Reno, Nev.

Kaepernick finished with 91 yards on the ground on 17 carries and connected on 20 of 27 passes for 273 yards.

The Spartans hung with the Wolf Pack for a half – trailing 21-13 at the break.

Hawaii 49, Fresno State 27: Greg Salas scored three touchdowns, two on passes from Bryant Moniz, and Alex Green ran for three scores as the Warriors overwhelmed the Bulldogs in Fresno, Calif.

Hawaii took the lead for good with a last-minute touchdown drive just before halftime then padded it with a 35-point second half.

Moniz, the nation’s leader in passing and total offense, threw for 376 yards as the Warriors racked up 472 yards of offense.

New Mexico State 16, New Mexico 14: Tyler Stampler’s 22-yard field goal with 1:56 remaining gave the Aggies (1-4) a victory over the visiting Lobos (0-6) in Las Cruces, N.M.

Andrew Manley, a freshman, came off the bench to relieve injured quarterback Tanner Rust. Manley completed both of his pass attempts, for 11 and 21 yards, to set up Stampler’s third field goal of the game.

Tyler Clay recovered a fumble in the end zone for New Mexico State’s only touchdown.

Louisiana Tech 24, Utah State 6: Lennon Creer ran for two touchdowns and the Bulldogs (2-4, 1-1) defeated the Aggies (2-4, 0-2) in Ruston, La.

Creer finished with 120 yards on 18 carries.

The Aggies managed just two field goals on offense and the defense allowed Louisiana Tech to amass 427 yards of offense.
