Area roundup: Hurt leads WSU to second place
Kyle Hurt finished 5-under-par 211 over three rounds – shooting a 1-over 73 Tuesday – to help Washington State to a second-place finish at the Purple and Red Invitational at the Valley View Golf Course in Layton, Utah.
Hurt finished in a tie for third. Sacramento State’s Jake Johnson earned medalist honors with a score of 204.
• Moscow grad Chris Williams tied for sixth place with a score of 214 to lead Washington in the Prestige at PGA West golf tournament in LaQuinta, Calif. The Huskies tied for second with Stanford, while California earned the tournament title shooting par.
Women’s golf
Kelsey Berg shot rounds of 88 and 90 to finish second and Alexa David took third with a score of 183 as Community Colleges of Spokane earned the team title at the Central Invite at Suncadia Golf Course in Cle Elum, Wash.
Football
Maurice Shaw, a senior wide receiver for the Idaho Vandals, was arrested early Saturday morning for driving under the influence on the Washington State campus, according to KXLY. Shaw, a starter who has 14 catches for 200 yards and a touchdown this season, is the second Vandal to be arrested this season for allegedly driving drunk.
UI publicist Becky Paul told KXLY that the Vandals coaching staff is aware of the arrest. She told the TV station that the matter has been dealt with internally.
• Whitworth punter Zach Clow was named Northwest Conference special teams player of the week for his effort against Pacific Lutheran.
