In brief: Site links students with aid options
A new website pairs Washington students with college scholarships.
“WashBoard.org is like e-harmony.com,” but instead of matching couples, it connects aspiring students with money for college, said Mary Beth Lambert, a spokeswoman for the Washington Scholarship Coalition, a collaboration of educators, nonprofits and child advocates.
“Students create a profile, and they are matched with scholarships,” Lambert said.
Website founders trained teachers and counselors last week in Spokane on how to use the website and spoke with community leaders.
The Ferris High School debate team will host a debate tonight between incumbent Democratic state Sen. Chris Marr and his Republican opponent, Michael Baumgartner.
The candidates, who are fighting one of the most expensive Washington Legislative battles this year, hope to represent the 6th Legislative District, which surrounds central Spokane on the north, west and south.
The debate starts at 7 p.m. in the Ferris High School auditorium, 3020 E 37th Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the Ferris Jazz Orchestra will play until the political forum starts.
