Celebrating only homer to end World Series Game 7

Bill Mazeroski and nearly a dozen former Pittsburgh Pirates teammates were joined by several thousand fans as they gathered at the site of Forbes Field to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the day that stands above all others in team history. It was on Oct. 13, 1960, that Mazeroski’s historic homer in the ninth inning gave the underdog Pirates a 10-9 victory over the Yankees in Game 7 of the World Series. The game is considered to be one of baseball’s classics. Mazeroski (at right in photo) and teammates including Vern Law, Bob Friend, Bill Virdon, Dick Groat, Hal Smith, Joe Gibbon, George Witt, Bob Oldis and Joe Christopher took part in a ceremony unveiling a plaque commemorating the only homer to end a World Series Game 7.
