Education notes: Students stage ‘Twelfth Night’
Students in the Lake City High School Theatre drama company, Troupe de Wolfe, will kick off their theatrical season with “Twelfth Night,” a performance that is said be the greatest of Shakespearian romantic comedies, on Thursday in the high school auditorium at 7 p.m. A “meet the company” dessert reception will follow the opening night performance.
The entertaining production is a Shakespearian twist on the original comic plotline of maniacal events surrounding the mixed up and mistaken identities of twins. In this rendition, Shakespeare mixes up the gender of the twins, too.
The “Twelfth Night” cast includes Amelia Schwaab, as Viola; Gabe Geesey, as Duke Orsino; Emily Irvin, as Olivia; Patric Schwaab, as Malvolio; Matthew Revis, as Feste: Michael Cooper, as Sir Toby Belch; Colton Robertson, as Sir Andrew Aguecheek; Jaki Whitmore, as Maria; Kody Kratz, as Fabian; Briley Moreno, as Sebastian; Kevin Granger, as Antonio; Rebekah Geren, as the Sea Captain and Musician; Ashley Mobraten, as Valentine; Dina Williams, as Curio; Kira Oskirko, as the Officer; Kelsey Brice, as the musician; and Sarah Bruch and Katharine Cheevers, as the Ladies in Waiting. The show is produced by LCHS Performing Arts teacher Sandra Seaton.
Performances continue Saturday and Oct. 28-30 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are on sale and cost $6 per person for general admission or $5 with a LCHS ASB card.
Tickets may be purchased at the school’s front office or at the door.
Student emissaries picked
Eleven sixth-graders at Twin Lakes Elementary School were recently selected to represent their school as Twin Lakes Emissaries for the 2010-’11 school year.
According to information on the Twin Lakes Elementary website, Maurie Roth, Aurora Peacock, Garrett Barry, Keelie Lawler, Allison Kirby, Melissa Pearson, Adria Jelinek, Austin Garitone, Dock Sommers, Alyssa Colvard and Sophia Gatten went through the process of completing a job application and getting letters of recommendation with signatures from their parents and teachers for the emissary position.
Student characteristics reviewed for the roles included their school attendance, punctuality, leadership skills, and work ethic. The website stated that the sixth-graders will be asked to complete daily tasks to help the school run more efficiently and effectively, along with leading Twin Lakes students and staff in a number of community service projects throughout the school year.
