Hunter killed in ATV crash in Spokane County

A North Bend, Wash., man who regularly visited north Spokane County with a hunting party for 35 years died Friday after he crashed his all-terrain vehicle near Reflection Lake. Donald McEwen, 63, suffocated when his 1994 four-wheeler overturned about 5:40 p.m. on Waldrons Lane near Lodge Pole Lane, about one mile southwest of the lake, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday. McEwen was driving on the road, which has a deep rut, to help guide the rest of the hunting party to camp. His fellow hunters heard him cry for help and found him turning blue under the vehicle. They began CPR, but McEwen died at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said.
