Enjoy a night of group karaoke with ‘Sound of Music Sing-Along’
One of my first big dates with the first girl I ever loved took place circa 1965 (maybe ‘66). We drove from Virginia Beach to downtown Norfolk, Va., to see “The Sound of Music.”
Not a stage production, mind you, but Robert Wise’s multiple-Oscar-winning (five wins out of 10 nominations) movie. In those days, in Norfolk at least, you had to buy reserved seats to see special screenings such as this.
And so we dressed up, drove into Norfolk, picked up our tickets, found our seats and, over the next 174 minutes, hummed along with all that great Rodgers and Hammerstein music. I was only 18, seriously taken with the girl I was with, and so charmed by the character played by Julie Andrews that I actually cried.
Of course, I’ve proved many times that I tend to cry at Kodak commercials. So maybe the movie itself is no big deal. But the music sure is.
Which is the point of this post. If you’re a “Sound of Music” fan, then you might want to score your tickets to a couple of events that will be playing at both the NorthTown and Spokane Valley Cinemas on Oct. 19 and 26. Click here to get the basic info .
Don’t know if I’m gonna go. I’m not that comfortable with crying in public. But … maybe.
