Sharing WSU news on a Wednesday
COUGARS
Literally got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and hit my knee on the way out to the kitchen. Not a good way to start the day. But the morning got immeasurably better when I started to travel around the web looking for stories. It’s always nice to find something to share. Read on.

• Washington State: There is some interesting items related to the Cougars, a few of which can even be found in our Pac-10 notebook for the week. … We also had our notes last night following practice, which included a look at the rebuilt offensive line with John Fullington at left tackle and Micah Hannam back at the right. … Christian Caple had a story today on WSU’s walk-on program, much of which you can read here . One thing I would like to add. It’s really hard for a school to give a walk-on a scholarship after his freshman year because unless you wait at least two years, the scholarship counts against your limit of 25 initials each season. In other words, if Walk-On A does well as a freshman and you want to reward him, then you can only sign 24 players the next season. … And don’t miss this summation of coach Paul Wulff’s radio show from last night. …

• Around the Pac-10: We’ll find out at least most of the details tomorrow morning, but San Jose’s Jon Wilner takes one last look at the possibilities for the Pac-12. … Bud Withers has his Pac-10 notebook . … Washington: While the Cougars will have a true freshman starting at left tackle, the Huskies have it a bit easier. Their true freshman is starting at defensive end. … Oregon State: The bye week workouts are serving an important purpose. … Oregon: George Schroeder points out , rightly, the Ducks could go undefeated the rest of the way and still not be in the BCS championship game. Such things have happened before. … The younger Matthews brother finally has what his older brothers had a long time ago, a No. 1 ranking . … When the Ducks host UCLA tomorrow night, this freshman will be on the field somewhere. … Cal: Kevin Riley plays, coach Jeff Tedford said, because he is the Bears best quarterback . … Some more from Tedford. … Stanford: Jim Harbaugh wants the Cardinal to get their fair share . … USC: Thanks to a bye, the Trojans are already working on getting ready for Oregon. … UCLA: Even if Kevin Prince doesn’t play, and it doesn’t look as if he will, the Bruins say they are ready for No. 1 Oregon. … Arizona State: If Utah and Colorado are in the same football division with ASU and Arizona, it will be a little bit of the past repeating itself for those schools. … Arizona: Matt Scott has big shoes to fill this weekend .
