Truth about ‘Facebook’ movie? Depends on who’s talking
Of the many questions that a movie fan could ask about “The Social Network,” the most obvious probably concerns accuracy. As in, how real is the the portrayal as defined by screen writer Aaron Sorkin?
Sorkin has had his say, both in the movie and in a number of post-premiere interviews. His basic position is close to what one Web site posted: “This isn’t a film of fiction. It’s based on concrete material that was revealed via anonymous sources.”
Fair enough. But that means, of course, that we have to take Sorkin’s word for the film being truthful. And there are those out there who, for whatever reason, are saying something different. You can find one by clicking here.
What’s interesting is that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has remained fairly mute about the whole thing. Of course, what’s he going to say? He has even less reason to be honest than Sorkin.
So … the truth? It’s clearly out there somewhere. Just where, though, is known only by those closest to the story. Besides, when has Hollywood ever let the truth get in the way of a good story?
